This 2-day workshop is designed for businesses and people who prefer to go beyond conventional tools and seek innovation and leadership in the 21st-century global market. This is a perfect opportunity for anyone who wishes to learn the cutting-edge Modern QFD, the new application methods, tools, and current best practices, from one of the top instructors in the world.
The curriculum incorporates the latest advancements in quality, design, and project management that are not yet taken up by the traditional approach seen elsewhere. Course Description

This workshop is part of the international program in

Quality Function Deployment.

In this step-by-step, hands-on QFD workshop, you will learn:

  • Brief history and principles of QFD - What it is and How it works;
  • The advantages of Modern QFD over Traditional QFD;
  • How to understand spoken and unspoken requirements (Voice of Customers);
  • How to prioritize customer needs and focus the development process;
  • How to translate key customer needs into product specifications;
  • How to deploy these needs end-to-end to each functional process;
  • Examples of QFD for manufactured goods, service and business process, chemical and food products.

Basic QFD tools that you will learn about in this course:

  • Customer Gemba Visits
  • Customer Voice Table
  • Affinity Diagram
  • Hierarchy Diagram
  • Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP)
  • Maximum Value Table
  • House of Quality
  • Downstream QFD Deployments (generic deployment in public course)

You will also be introduced to associated quality methodologies such as:

  • New Product Development Teams
  • Project Managers;
  • QFD project team members including marketing and sales, R&D, design, manufacturing, service, quality, etc.;
  • Training scouts who will report on QFD to their management;
  • Quality consultants and Six Sigma/Design for Six Sigma Black Belts;
  • Trainers, facilitators, and internal quality gurus;
  • Those who have taken traditional QFD courses such as those offered at universities and quality institutions such as A SI, GOAL/QPC, J USE, ASQ, EFQM, etc.

  • There is no prerequisites to enroll in this course.

  • CD-ROM with case studies and QFD MS Excel templates

Recommended Things to Bring:

  1. Your laptop computer (with CD drive, MS Excel®, MS Word®, and Adobe Acrobat® 7.0) or a calculator as you will receive a CD with QFD Excel templates and case studies.
  2. Relevant marketing and technical data for a small project or a part of a large project that you are currently working on or plan to work on in the future.
(You will not be asked to reveal any confidential data. The goal is to make the QFD exercises real and meaningful to you!  If it is not feasible to bring such data, you may use a generic model that is most commonly used by various industries. Or create a case study related to your hobby or personal project.)
You may also bring your project team and learn as you work on a real project or you may join others.
  1. Voltage converter and plug adaptor. China uses 220 volts, 50 AC cycles. A variety of electrical outlets can be found in China, such as two-flat pins (no third round pin), two-round pins, three-flat pins (with two pins at an angle). So, bring a good all-around adaptor plug set.

 

 First Step toward Becoming a QFD Team Leader or Facilitator:

Upon successful completion of this course, students receive a provisional QFD Green Belt® Certificate from the QFD Institute. To assure the integrity of the Certificate as demonstrated by application, full status will be earned upon successful completion of:
  • having a QFD Master Black Belt® custom-tailor a QFD process for your company; and

  • submitting two QFD work objects from an actual project using your tailored process for successful review by a QFD Master Black Belt® within one (1) year.

Having a QFD Green Belt® is a prerequisite for enrolling in a QFD Black Belt® Certificate Course the next step toward becoming a successful QFD team leader or facilitator. 
The attendees of this course will be eligible to enroll in the QFD Black Belt® Certificate Course in the next 12 months or QFD Green Belt® Update Course anytime in the future.

  • Registration before September 17 is recommended to avoid late registration surcharge. Please see the cut-off date. No walk-ins will be accepted.

 

 Venue, Hotel, & Travel

This course will be held from 9 am to 5 pm on both September 23 and September 24 at Jiuhua Spa & Resort (see below). Please plan your travel accordingly; late arrival and early departure may jeopardize your receiving a certificate.

The standard room at this resort is about US$90 per room per night.

Jiuhua Spa & Resort is located about 1-hour taxi ride (about US$20) from Beijing International Airport (airport code: PEK). From the city center, take subway Line 5 to "Tian Tong Yuan Station" and then use a taxi (10-minutes ride, about US$3).

Located in the vicinity of historical Ming and Qing dynasty palaces and renowned Xiaotangshan Spa grounds, Jiuhua Spa & Resort features hot springs, pools, ten restaurants, shops, and a health care center for modern and traditional treatments. Some of Beijing's historical attractions are about 1-hour drive from this hotel, including the Imperial Palace, the Great Wall, the Ming Imperial Tombs, Summer Palace, Xiang Shan Mountain, and the Temple of Heaven.
